Eileen Ryan is an interdisciplinary artist from New England. She merges her background in microbiology, art, and hospitality to craft exploratory works centered around interspecies communication, spiritual microbiomes, mysticism and the recognition of humans as a pivotal filter of our known natural world. Her observations, performances, and multimedia works convey the complexity of the moral choices tied to curiosity. The temptation to know more and experimental trial and tale, unite empathy and reverence and remind us of a responsibility in the face of curiosity.

The effect may also invoke a sense of transcendence and connection with humanity as a whole, from which national borders appear petty.[2]” -Wikipedia.

Codex | Phase 1: Library of transcriptions and speculative translations in bark beetle galleries. This project has opened up opportunities for endless areas of research and I’m excited that this is only the beginning! There is still so much to uncover and understand . The first phase of “Codex” won’t be complete until the end of this month when my residency @cultivamoscultura comes to an end, but I thought I would share a little bit of my process over the past weeks before the final documentation. Thank you to everyone that has supported me and allowed me the privilege to pursue my work. “from dream to dream, where science meets art” is a collection of essays by artists affiliated with Interface, an organization dedicated to the exploration and artistic research of science and art in the Inagh Valley of Ireland. I am incredibly grateful to be included in this wonderful publication edited by Alannah Robins. This book is one in a three book series including, “The Hatchery” ,a brief history of the residency space, once a state of the art salmon hatchery designed by Scott Tallon Walker, and “Sensucht” a limited edition art book and concertina featuring the work of founder, Alannah Robins.
